Honouring the romance of the dream wedding whilst addressing the practical elements necessary to make that dream a reality; appropriately themed “Romantic Bridal Fantasy” – Bridal Africa 2008 welcomed prospective brides and grooms to a weekend of tantalising splendour and inspiration.

Merging pure romance with the realities of planning that perfect wedding day, the exhibition showcased leading suppliers of all things bridal; featuring phenomenal fashion spectaculars and unparalleled entertainment. Bridal Africa is well-known for its delivery of the most comprehensive selection of wedding gowns and this year the show featured over 112 designs by more than 45 of South Africa’s most prominent designers. A spectacular selection of garments offered romantic couture options that inspired creativity for all tastes ranging from African to European and Eastern.

One of the most significant elements of the show annually is the presentation of the impressive creations of the finalists in the Bridal Africa Young Designer Awards. Sponsored by NichePro in its corporate social responsibility programme, the initiative provides aspiring young designers with a platform from which to showcase their talents and to become empowered to contribute towards the economy of South Africa. Bridal Africa is the only bridal exhibition that stages Young Designer Awards in South Africa and provides a hand holding process for the winner to participate as a fully fledged exhibitor the following year.

Juan Visser of LISOF scooped the prestigious Bridal Africa 2008 Young Designer Award and his winning dress has already been sold! As part of his prize Juan receives a fully equipped exhibition stand in 2009, giving him an unparalleled opportunity to generate future business leads. Melissa Somerset of Rainer Academy was the first runner-up, with Melecia Sylvester of Peninsula University of Technology selected as second runner-up.

“Bridal Africa 2008 attracted a record number of 4,360 quality visitors and the feedback received from exhibitors and visitors could not have been better”, says NichePro managing director Dee Reuvers.
